In the 1990s, Chilean publishers coined a word that has since travelled across Latin America: bibliodiversity. A living planet depends on a variety of species, and a healthy culture depends on a plurality of voices, stories and publishing projects. When only a few houses decide what gets published and translated, a society loses part of its symbolic balance.

Brazil has around 800 formally established publishing houses, and more than 150 of them are independent publishers. These small and mid-sized houses are where most new Brazilian authors first appear, and where some of the country’s boldest ideas find print. Yet very few of them can sustain a foreign-rights department, so their books rarely reach readers outside Brazil.

Lafloufa Rights Office exists to close that gap. We represent independent houses together, with one point of contact, a curated list and someone who knows every title in depth. For publishers abroad, that means a direct route to books that would otherwise stay hidden. For our partners, it means a place in the international conversation.
